Room 216, Sunday morning

After the radio broadcast, Cecil did as he'd promised and came back to his room and hugged Foucault a lot. And fed him; he was about the size of a really large turkey now, and his adult feathers hadn't even started coming in yet.

Then he fussed about his blood-stone circle for a while to make sure it was perfect before he commenced one of the oldest and most important rituals he knew, which basically translated to "please leave me alone".

He could do this. He hoped.

Anna blinked a few times, then said, "Okay, I honestly still have no idea what you think is going to happen, but whatever it is doesn't happen here. All homecoming court means is you get a crown and a special dance, and I guess bragging rights if you're the kind of person who likes to brag about winning a popularity contest." Anna was not that kind of person.

Cecil eyed her skeptically. "So long as the alumni who've gone eldritch don't come back, right?"

"I'm not sure what 'gone eldritch' means," Anna admitted. "But I've never heard of the alumni causing a problem."

[voiceoverdue]

Which only meant she hadn't heard of it. "If you say so," he answered a bit dubiously.

"I do say so," Anna insisted. "There's nothing to be afraid of. And if there is, it had better be afraid of me instead." No eldritch whatevers were going to mess with her little sibling.

Cecil went a little wide-eyed at that, but he'd long ago learned that if someone wanted to give you their protection, you took it! "Thank you!" he replied fervently.

For however much good she could do. He wasn't sure how well ghosts stood up against eldritch beings.

Anna was the most powerful ghost in the western hemisphere, so her track record was actually pretty good. "So, if anyone seems particularly eldritch at you, just let me know," she said, hoping that would be encouraging.

"Right." He grinned at her, a little relieved. "I'll try and remember to do that. Thank you!" He gestured at his circle. "I'm sort of hoping they'll ignore me, though. That would be best."
